Sale Structure
General Concept: Lambs are represented on a board and buyers indicate the lambs they interested in by placing their buyers' number on the board. When a lamb is up for auction, all interested buyers will gather together around the lamb with the seller and auctioneer. Buyers will be asked for their bid until the highest bidder remains. Sale will continue with the next lamb on the board until all lambs are sold.
Finer Points: Each lamb will be numbered and their corresponding number will be up on a board with a peg to hold buyer numbers. The bid board will represent the selling order, moving from left to right and top to bottom. Once buyers have selected which lambs they are interested in, they place a card with their buyer’s number on the peg for the respective lambs they wish to bid on.
In groups of 5+, the bid board will be closed. Once a group of lambs are closed buyers are not allowed to place their number on a lamb from that group. The first lamb in the group will be set aside and each of the interested buyers, based on buyer numbers collected from the peg, will be called forward to provide their bid. A base bid will be set for each lamb and buyers will be asked to place bids in $5 increments, minimum. Buyers are allowed to jump bids and bidding will continue in a Round Robin format until only the highest bidder remains. We will move through the remaining four lambs in a group before closing the board for the next group of lambs.
Buyers can add or remove their number from lambs at any time, provided they are still part of an open section on the board. To keep the sale moving, we encourage buyers to place their number ONLY on lambs they want to purchase and to join the auctioneer, seller and lamb in the bidding area when called.
Our intent with this format is to have a more personal connection with the buyers/kids. We will move through the lambs as quickly as possible and work hard to make this a positive experience for everyone involved.
We will allow for phone bids, but only on a prearranged basis. Please contact either Courtney or John Heller to arrange what lambs you wish to bid on and what number you can be contacted at on sale day.
